need help and recommendations on a rambler build...
building one of my surly cc as a tourer/rambler. It is going to have the following components.
black cc frameset brooks b17 vo porteur bars w/diacompe silver barends vo stem shellacked tan bar tape to match saddle silver tektro cr720s tiagra rear/front derailleur (stock) andel crankset (stock) nitto porteur rack I'm looking for some brake levers that will work with the VO porteur bars but pull enough cable to work with cantis. Any recommendations? also, looking for fenders that would make this look sweet. Anyone have comments on the VO silver fenders? How do they measure up to say planet bike's cascadia? |
looks like a fun build.
i'm currently modifying my stock cross check for a long tour, and replacing the deore derailleurs. they don't allow for low enough gearing for true fully loaded touring. if you think you'll ever want to do a fully loaded tour i'd recommend using a deore derailleur |
good point. What number of teeth on your crank and cogs??
|
I got rid of all my 52 teeth outer chainrings a few years ago. My present set up is 46-36-26 to a 14-28 rear. For a double, I'd go 46-34 in front. As far as fenders are concerned, make sure they are wide enough for your tires. I haven't used the Cascadia fenders, but they come with a mudflap, so you won't have to make your own from plastic and duct tape or something.
