The Katy Trail
 

Who has ridden all the way on the Katy Trail in Missouri? Tell me about it. Beautiful? Anyone know how the weather tends to be this time of year?

I'll be riding on it all the way from St. Charles to Clinton!

I did it in 2008. Look here for the story. I've done most of it on another tour. Both times it was a nice trip. Real easy riding.

I have twice. It is quiet and peaceful. Plenty of places to stop and eat. Camping needs to be researched and planned. Late spring/early summer is a good time, as is late fall or times of mild weather in the winter -after the skeeters have died off. Late summer can be really bad for bugs. Spring is bad when it's soft. I like taking day trips on the Katy during the winter if the weather is dry, but I am close enough to do that. Lovely trail.

Awesome. This is the part of the ride I'm most excited about.

I have rode most of it numerous times but not all of it any time. Next week that will change as my wife is dropping my buddy and I off in Clinton and picking us up 4 days later in St. Charles. It is a beautiful trail and combines two if my favorite things, the mighty Missouri river and a bike. What could be better?

I have done it twice, both times in the late fall and enjoyed it very much. Easy riding but can become monotonous at times. We camped and carried our own food on both trips, but there are plenty of places to stay along the way if you don't like tents. The first trip was hot, sunny and windy and the second trip was cold, windy and rainy. During heavy rains, some parts of the trail become soft and that steps up the level of difficulty. Overall great ride and I plan on doing it again in a few years with my kids. The best thing about it is...NO CARS!!!

I haven't found it to be boring yet. To me it is peaceful and soothing. I can really zone-out on the Katy.

+1. I only live 60 miles from Clinton and take several rides on the Katy every year. Are there mosquitoes********** Hells yes! You're by the river!

Like Sknsgy was saying, camping can get a little tricky too. You can pitch a tent at Les Bourgeois in the grassy area by the parking lot. They don't mind and you can get some good wine and food. I've pitched a tent under the small tree right off the trail in Marthasville. Other than that, the Rangers don't want to SEE you camping anywhere but in a camp ground. Personally I'm not fond of campgrounds...

I'm leaving for Marietta, GA on the 29th. I'll probably pick up the Katy on the 30th or 31st in Sedalia. From there to St. Louis, then South. Maybe I'll see some of you out there!

The KATY and MKT was such a joy to ride on. There are so many indigo buntings on the KATY!

If Justin (the cyclotourist I was leap-frogging with on the way to Columbia where we finally met up) is reading this, I want to reconnect with you somehow. I didn't get your contact info....FIND ME! I wanna chat more about the Alpaca farm!

The KATY is near me so it is one of my future trips. Maybe in the fall. Blues Frog
