Favorite Shoes for Non-Clipless Touring?
There have been a couple of good threads going recently about touring without clipless pedals (platforms by themselves, with toeclips or with Power Grips).
I'm leaning towards using my MKS Touring pedals, most likely with toeclips and straps, for my upcoming tour.
Regarding footwear, I use Adidas Sambas for commuting, but find that they're a bit too flexible for rides more than 10-20 miles. That said, they're great off the bike! Ideally I'd like something reasonably comfortable for biking most of the day, but also for walking around towns and even some light trail hiking.
What do you all recommend?

I use 5.10 impacts for mountain biking:

They are a little overbuilt for road riding, but the stealth rubber sole grips the pedal really well.

I love the Arroyo II KEENs. For me they are good for everything - riding, hiking, walking. I wear them touring. I wear them commuting. I wear them to work every day.
Warm = no socks
Cool = socks
Cold = thick socks
They look like shoes when worn with the right coloured socks.
Waterproof leather that dries very quickly.
They have hard wearing, stiff soles that works well with my MKS Touring pedals.

I use the older Specialized Sonoma shoes (laces, not velcro). They don't scream "cycle dweeb" when I walk into Taco Bell.

I go for lightness and comfort off the bike. I like a really nice pair of running shoes. When they're new they're so cushy and comfortable! I've had issues with bruised feet, but never issues while riding from my shoes. In short, my cushy running shoes work fine on the bike and are wonderful off it. And they're light.
