Need help with rack and bags
 

So I have been lurking this forum for the last couple weeks as I am in the process of buying a pair of bikes for my girlfriend and myself. I am hopefully going to be getting a pair of Kona Dew Drops for both of us (not sure about me though since my LBS say's I should be on a 58cm but theres none left in Canada! He is checking to see if he can get me one from the states). Decided on this bike because it seems to be a bike that will be good for all the things I want it for (commuting, groceries, being able to go on trails and also want to be able to tour on it) while still being in my price range.

I have been looking for racks and bags online to try and keep the cost down as much as possible since the 2 bikes will be taking almost all my budget. I was just wondering if anyone knows whether these ones I found on ebay are any good (no brand mentioned so can't look up reviews)

This aint name brand stuff and though it looks ok, you don't need breakdowns on the road. The seller really doesn't say where this is coming from. Look into Lone Peak / Axiom / or even Nashbar for better stuff that won't break the budget. (IMHO)

I'm not sure about the bags, but the rack looks like an Axiom Journey rack. As per the Axiom web page, the Journey is rated at 154 lbs.

Since you're in Canada check out MEC, they are typically very fairly priced for a good product. I've never used their racks or panniers but that's where I'll be getting them when I do. I think the $20 front rack is the same as Kona uses on their Sutra. (touring bike)

I would save my money and get two Surly LHT bikes and get good set of pannniers for the two of you.Cheap stuff cost more in the long run.That's my 2 cents on it tho.

One thing when looking at the Kona Dew Drop is that I have read that it is built very very solid (pro in that you wont break it but bad because its a bit heavy and not the smoothest ride). Also in my mind the best bike is the one you have and if I had to save up for the LHT's it would be awhile before I got them (as a student the funds tend to keep getting lower as opposed to higher).

I have awhile to keep looking at some other options mentioned here as I want to get the bikes first since it is supposed to be a surprise for the gf and a bunch of bike racks and bags would be a pretty big giveaway.

With the Dew Drop, you may need disc specific racks - or at least disc adaptors so the rack legs fit over the disc brake callipers (this was certainly the case with the 2009 Dew models but may be different with the 2010s).

I am pretty sure that issue with mounting racks on the 2009 model has been addressed with the 2010 model (at least thats what my LBS guy told me!)

I have ordered the 2 bikes from my shop (he was able to pull a 58cm model for me from the states) so by next Friday they should be built and ready to go!
