P-clamp
 

I want to adapt an Old Man Mtn cold springs front rack to a Salsa Vaya which has disc brakes and doesn't have the brake bosses on the front fork.

I know Old Man Mountain sells P-clamps for the use with the upper arms but can I buy them from a hardware store? Perhaps in the pipe/plumbing section? It has to be infinitely easier and probably cheaper than OMM who is all the way across the country...

I buy mine at a hardware store that's located near a marina district, they cater to the boating industry and have tons of stainless hardware. I bought some stainless steel rubber-insulated p-clips last week for $1.45 ea.

FWIW, the big nationwide hardware stores might have them in the electrical department, if they have them at all... McMaster Carr has them also if you're forced to do mail order.

You can get P-clamps in a variety of sizes at most hardware stores, especially the bigger ones. Just ask someone at the store.

just an update, I went to Lowes and bought 1" P-clamps in the electrical dept and they fit very nice, they are maybe .5 to 1mm loose on the stock Vaya fork. I can simply use a thin shim to get the P-clamp to be nice and snug.

This is a temporary measure as I'm going to use my QR Old Man Mountain front rack from my old MTB until Salsa releases their low rider in the fall (According to Salsa's email).

FWIW, you can find a wider range of sizes in the misc fasteners area. In most hardware stores it's the aisle where you can buy one nut or bold at a time.

The largest I saw at Lowes in the electrical dept was 1". It is a rubberized aluminum so they are bendable and formable as I know my fork blades are more ovalized than round.
