It's not clear whether you are trying to make sure you eat enough or whether you are trying to plan how much food to carry.

That's only 35-55 miles per day. I'd say that 5000 cals per day seems excessive. It depends, of course, on how hard/fast you ride, hills, ambient temperature, etc...

How many cals do you eat on a 90 km day ride? That is, what does your riding experience tell you about what you might need?

well just returned and as usual, the best advice is this 'EAT WHEN YOUR HUNGRY'.
seriously, who has time when touring to literally count calories during every day?
haven't weighed myself yet but i think i lost about 3 - 5 kilos.

i lost some extra fat on my stomach and now i'm ripped again which is nice :)
i guess my question from the beginning was not so much as a practical one as to just get a ball park figure so i can tell people a number before the trip started.
