California sr128

Anyone have any experience with California state route 128 thru Mendocino county? Ridable on a loaded touring bike or not? I want to ride Northbound from Mountain House Road to Flynn Creek Road. I've heard there's no shoulder. Too much truck traffic?

I used to do that route dozens of times in the 70's and 80's. There's good site distance from Boonville to Flynn Creek but there's stretches with barely a foot to the right of the white line near Philo. I forget exactly where Mtn. House Rd(do you mean Mtn. View?) is but 128 is too fast and shaded beyond Flynn Creek to be fun compared to the much less trafficked Flynn Creek if your destination is the coast.

just checked, Mtn. House Rd. comes in about 1/2 way down into Anderson Valley. You'll have stretches with only a foot to the right of the white line and the chance of semis and logging trucks barreling through. There's enough visibility to give you and the trucks some breathing room but don't be afraid to pull off if you see another truck/car coming the other way.
