Thoughts on a 2001 Jamis Aurora ...
I just bought a new 2001 Jamis Aurora. I was looking for a touring bike and called a LBS asking about a Fuji when he mention that he had this bike and would give me a good deal. In fact he gave me a great deal and with the money I saved I made the following upgrades:
Anyone have experience with this bike? Anyone have other possible upgrades? I plan to do light multi-day tours. Thanks. |
Flats are easily remedied with tire liners, Mr. Tuffy or Slime. Or you could buy flat resistant tires like Specialized Armadillos or Schwalbe Marathons or Conti Top Tourer 2000s, plus you'll get thousands of miles out of them, vs. hundreds for many other tires. Most people never get flats with these. I use Mr Tuffy and haven't had a flat all summer.
I have an '03 Jamis Quest that I really like. It's a wonderful riding bike. Plush. |
Hi,
if (more likely when) the chain starts falling off; you will have a couple choices. You can put the original 30T ring back and get a 12-34 rear cassette. Or you could throw on a Mtn bike crank that comes with a 26T small ring standard. Lots of good tires out there. All depends on what works for you. These work for me... http://rivendellbicycles.com/webalog...bes/10043.html |
I forgot, I also added one of those chain guards to keep the chain from falling off when shifting to the 26T ring.
