Convert Jeep triangle roll-bar bag as a frame pack?

Has anyone tried a Bestop Jeep triangle rollbar bag as a frame pack? Dimensions seem good/close. I just got a set to try. Will report.

There's another outfit making similar bags with slightly different proportions -- maybe even better for compact frames. Jimco.

Why not just buy a bicycle specific frame pack and save yourself the trouble of converting something.

I guess I shoulda dealt with that question in the OP, but I thought it was close to assumable. (I wouldn't be trying to convert if there was a comparably cheap/good item on the market...)

So... are there any big/full frame packs out there?

Jandd makes a nice, small "upper quadrant" pack for $30 -- but that's not what I'm after. I want something bigger.

If these Jeep bags work then we might have full-size frame packs for the prize of the smaller Jandd, pretty much.

(The Jeeps are about $70 a pair, or thereabouts. They come in pairs. If they work, maybe we can find a friend who wants to go in on the other one, or save it for a rainy/blow-out day.)

There are 2 pack makers that I know of -- Carousel Design Works and Revelate (used to be known as Epic Designs) -- who custom-sew full-size frame packs to frame-size, and whose work is great, world-famous and ultralight, but a bit pricey for me right now. For casual use, which is mostly what I do at this point, I don't mind exploring the "cheapy homebrew" route or other alternatives.

Check em out: http://www.revelatedesigns.com, http://carouseldesignworks.com.

A main point behind conversions is that they're thrifty, especially when done with military surplus or a mass-market item, like a Jeep pack.

You wouldn't do it if there was a better, cheaper item already available. (Of course, you know what they say about how you can get it good, cheap or fast, but not all 3. Still, I always like giving it a shot!)

Anyway, the long and short of it is: a full-size frame pack isn't readily/affordabily available, that I know of.

But maybe I'm overlooking some packs out there? Other than the (too-small) Jandd? ...If the Replier knew of any, they didn't say.
