Hi all,
I have done most of my riding on a MTB, but I'm planning on riding across the US this summer so I'm looking into getting a new bike for the trip. The trip is going to be van supported, so I think a sport-touring or road bike probably makes the most sense. I've been looking at the Bianchi Eros or Veloce Triple. Does anybody have any opinions on these bikes or suggestions on other bikes that I might want to look at? Thanks for your time, Starman |
For a fully van supported tour, whatever you get, make sure its comfy for long rides.. Ask at your LBS. Id avoid the latest racing machine and opt for something with more relaxed angles. Aero bars are great for those long stretches to let your arms shoulders rest.. Triple will be nice for those big hills that creep up on you after 60 miles : )

The features you really need on a sport tourer are:
threaded eyelets for rack and fenders. Long drop caliper brakes with clearance for 28mm + fenders (possibly 32mm). triple chainset with ratios according to your strength Racing weight frameset. Sport touring style fit (ie raised bars) You dont need a full expedition rig, but both these models look to be more racey than touring. |
fully supported? you'll be carrying no luggage? i suppose at most a small hbar bag for map and
snacks, and a seatpost bag for flat repair. if that's the case, ride whatever is comfortable. if you already have an mtb that fits, and is set up for your riding style, no reason you can't ride that. you may want to make some minor changes: perhaps some higher gearing for highway cruising, and switch out to 1.5" slicks. |
