Wider rim LHT?
I'm debating on whether I should tour with my 50mm wide Marathon Supremes mounted on the Alex Adventure rims that come stock on the complete bikes.
It seems to ride fine(un loaded), actually it rides fantastic compared to the stock Conti's with no indications of mushy cornering you would expect from mounting a wide tire on a narrow rim. I will eventually build a new wheel set with a Son hub but want to wait till next year. Thoughts? |
I've got a Dyad with SON on the front and rhynolite on the rear.

In case anyone else wanted know, regarding the fitment of larger tires on the LHT. According to Schwalbe North America, the 50mm Schwalbe Marathons can safely be mounted under load on the Alex Adventurer rim that comes equipped on the complete LHT bikes.
Thanks to Guy at the Ferndale dist center for his help! :thumb: |

How do you like the Son hub? Is the rolling resistance noticeble, unladen?
Regarding the Alex Adventurer rim and the op I'd stick with it if rebuilding a new wheel unless it's worn out. I went with the Rhynolite because my LHT is being used as a heavy utility shopper and I wanted a wide beefy rim. |
Does that bike have the 700C wheels? What fenders are you running? I've wondered if I could go wider than what I have now (40).
