Ok it's far from loaded but I just wanted to show my new LHT:

Edit: Ok, here's a new picture where it's "loaded":

Hey thanks, sorry to hear about yours. Question for you: Did you ever use fenders? What brand/model?

My Loaded Rig

Hi,

Here is a photo of my fully loaded 1981 Miyata 1000. I rode this bike from north of San Francisco about 300 miles down the coast to Morro Bay last week. The bike and the touring set-up worked great.

Beauty! I`d like to be able to lug a big `ol bottle like that too- is that a production bracket, or some kind of homebrew or modified deal?

it was right here.

i prettymuch found this spot on google earth by chance. perfect camp site on the edge of a cliff and far from any people. totally secluded and totally beautiful. although its at the base of a gnarly long hill. fun descent at the end of the day but hellish climb first thing the next morning.

Indeed it does, even with a front fender (though I had to bend the right fender stay, but no biggy). My wife's Safari (one of two of ours) on the Denali Highway in Alaska.

Tailwinds.

What brand is that the front rack with the shelf on the 83 Specialized? I've tried fitting a Jandd on mine but the cantilever brakes are in the way.

i actually made that by combining an old blackburn mountian rack (top deck) with parts of an old blackburn lowrider rack. i did have to tweak the mountian rack a little to make it fit my fork but its sturdy.

Here's the record load...but wait! There are no pedals!

Met this fellow in the town of Parker, Arizona, on a tour from Tucson to Death Valley.

How does your wife like the Safari? Is it a good bike for a shorter woman? I'm curious because I'm considering purchasing one at a later date. Thanks in advance!

She likes it very much and used to commute on it 11 miles (one way) as well until we moved two blocks from her work. My wife is just over 5'6" but I've seen riders much shorter on the Novara Safari. It's low cost capability. Sometimes you just can't beat that combination for touring.

Well thank you for your help - I'll definitely look into one when I return from my adventure (see sig) this summer.

Related: I`m pretty sure the Vogels ( familyonbikes.org ) have a Safari that Davey and Daryl trade off on.
Not so related: It must be tough sizing a bike for a pair of kids that you expect to grow a few inches over the course of their next ride.

Well I'm a short gal, 5'3" with a 29 inch inseam and I find my back gets sore very quickly - I don't think I've ever owned a properly fitted bike and feel like I may need something with a slightly shorter top tube and higher stem than most.
(Sidenote: I didn't mean to hijack this thread! Sorry!)
