Lowrider rack question

I recently bought a "grab bag" of touring stuff off of ebay-a front & rear rack, 3 sets of panniers, and some other goodies. It was hard to tell what I was getting from the photos. The front rack ended up being a blackburn "custom" lowrider. I believe it is the type for mid-fork braze-ons. At least it has 2 arms on the top of the rack. Unfortunately, my bike does not have mid-fork braze-ons. Has anyone ever modified one of these racks to work on a regular fork? Is it even worth the bother? Or do I just resell it on ebay and buy the type that clamps on the fork? I'd like to hear your ideas. Thanks, Yeti

There is a pair U-bolts in the box to attach the upper part of the rack around the fork.

Don't do that, however, if you have a carbon fork (or check with LBS first). But the U-bolt is perfect for steel or aluminium.

P.S. If you doN't have the bolts, your favourite hardware should have some.

U bolts won't work with this rack. It has 2 arms on top, one arm for each side of the fork blade. It looks like it can be attached to either a non threaded mid-fork braze-on with a bolt, or to a threaded mid-fork braze-on with 2 screws.

Do you have the ability to post a photo? Hard to give an answer without seeing on. I have the above mentioned model with the u-bolts, and I know that the blackburn custom is considered to be one of two models. If you can take a photo, post with all parts incuded too...

I don't have a digital camera, but here is one that is very close: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting

If that link doesn't work, try this one:

The only difference between the above rack and mine is that (on mine) the two arms on top are drilled so it can be attached by braze-on bolts. Otherwise, it is identical.

Yep, sorry, it looks extremely difficult to attach these without mid-fork braze-ons, if not impossible. Anyway, I'm not sure this is such a good design for a loaded front. The one I have has an arm extending over the wheel, connecting the two rack pieces and adding more stability when loaded ie. less movement when turning a loaded front wheel. It has u-lock clamps that fit very snugly, and although I was initially hestitant about using a Blackburn rack for heavily loaded touring, it hasn't let me down yet, 1 1/2 years later...
Here is a review of the same...

I think you should just sell/trade the one you have for this one, much better...
