Internal gears?
I once read on the Sheldon Brown site about a guy who did a tour of Australia with a Rohloff 14-speed internal. He seemed to think it was the best touring system he had ever used.
How do you all feel about internal gearing? Is it good for touring? If I wanted to use a 7-speed internal and a few chain rings, would you advise it?

The Rohloff 14-Speed would be the only hub system I would recommend. I do no recommned this device for the hard core MTB rider but touring is another story. The Raven is a touring bike built with this hub and it makes a lot of sense.
The only problem with the Rohloff is that it doesn't drop you as low as the tripple. I believe Rohloff has a limit as to the lowest chainring/cog you can put on the wheel.
