Surly LHT (26" wheel) fenders - need recommendation
Hello All
Am looking to add fenders to my Surly LHT (26" wheel size) and was wondering if you might be able to share your experiences. Much appreciate your help,
Warm wishes

See if you can find the fenders used by "twodeadpoets" who posts on this forum, I think he has a blog and photos. They're a little pricey but really lovely and functional.

I used SKS, they work fine and attach solidly. With1.75" tires I've got lots of room.

I've been using Planet Bike's Cascadia fenders with very good results. They're longer and thus provide more protection than the other brands, were easy to install, and have been quite durable so far. Attached are two pictures to show you how they look fitted to my 26"-wheeled LHT. The one with the moustache bars have 26x1.6 Continental Sport Contacts; the one with the normal drop bars have 26x2.0 Schwalbe Kojaks.

I use the PB Hardcore fenders on mine. I am thinking about replacing the mudflap with the cascadia mud flap.

I have pb cascadias and they are great full coverage fenders. I have the 60mm fenders and they work well with tires from 1.5 to 2.1. The tires pictured are 1.75.

I've used Planet Bike Cascadia and SKS fenders on my bikes. Build quality and coverage are about the same, but I found the PB fenders to be much easier to install than SKS. The PB fenders come with struts that are sized to fit the wheels they'll be installed on. My SKS fenders came with overly long struts that needed to be trimmed with a Dremel or other cutting tool. Assembly of the SKS struts was also a bit fiddly. The PB fenders arrived partially assembled. SKS fenders arrived completely disassembled, including a bag of numerous tiny bolts, washers, mounting studs, etc.
Unless you can save a ton of money by buying SKS, I can't see that they're worth the hassle (granted: it's probably a one-time hassle)...
Edit: Turns out I lied: I've actually got the PB Hybrid/Touring fenders, not the Cascadia...

two more cents. I'm not sure about the 26" PB Cascadias but the 700c ones I have on the Cross-Check are noticably wobblier than the SKS ones I had on before or the SKS on my 26" LHT. Not sure if it contributes to some of the hands off wobble that can occur with a rear load but I notice the struts are mounted higher up on the front fender than the SKS allowing more wobble in the fender. The top strut is pretty much useless given it's close placement to the fork crown mount. The reason I like them is that my foot doesn't hit the strut like it did on the SKS, this is not an issue with the 26" wheeled LHT and I don't have 26" Cascadias to make the comparison with the SKS like I did on the 700c Cross-check.

If you are looking to order some, Google
"Planet Bike Cascadia 29er Front and Rear Bicycle Fender Set with 130mm Mud Flaps (Black, 65mm Wide)"
They fit very well with my wide tires "Schwalbe Marathon Supreme HS 382 Touring Road Bike Tire (26x2.00)"
Don't forget to consider the width of your tires before buying your fenders. If you ride on wide tires, a narrow set of fenders will fit poorly.

I have the Planet Bike Cascadia's on my touring bike, as well, and like them. Plenty of room for my 26x1.5 Marathon's. Only problem I had was mounting the front on the 29er fork (used for disc brake and to raise the front a little). Made a 'bracket' that works well.
