Memphis to Chicago?
Hello everyone... Has anyone ridden from Memphis to Chicago or other way around? I'm trying to plan this ride for this spring and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for roads to take. Thanks for any help you can give!

If you wanted to be a little less direct but more scenic check out the Adventure Cycling Association's maps. Specifically, the Great Rivers Trail and the Under Ground Railroad have segments that would be useful. Also checkout the Mississippi River Trail. All these trails take you up the west side of Illinois, which may be a little out of your way but might be worth it. I would think riding the length of eastern Illinois would be pretty darn boring. To get from the western Illinois to Chicago you can use the Grand Illinois Trail. The Illinois Prairie Path can get you through the west suburbs and close to the city.

Ride the Great River Road along the Mississippi River as far north as Grafton Illinois. Then get good maps and take low volume traffic roads along the Illinois River to Pekin/Peoria, Illinois, then on to Chicago along the Illinois River. You have to map out the paved country roads along the rivers, it's a beautiful ride to Joliet, then take the train into Chicago.
