VIDEO: Making Coffee While on Tour
Howdy all, thought I'd share the latest video we made showing how we make coffee on bike tour!
http://youtu.be/d4GTLDBei5w We've tried quite a few devices (pour over, aeropress, gold filters, etc.,) this seems to be the best compromise of flavor/convenience we've found. Cheers, Russ www.pathlesspedaled.com |
Thanks, that looks pretty nice.

it appears you were making it in a kitchen and not a campground?
Making coffee for me involves letting it drip while breaking camp http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=196761 and here's my patented campground cappuccino http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=196762 a coffee drink I've been delighting friends with for decades frothed by agitating instant milk in a nalgene with just a little bit of sugar..... the perfect campground cappuccino. |
Yes. It was in a the kitchen because we live in Portland and it is always raining outside. But I can assure it has been made while camping. I just didn't have a video camera with me then :)
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5292/...df24f97e_b.jpg We used a similar dripper you show there on our last trip for 15 months and it makes a pretty good cup! One of the things we were really keen on was trying to find a coffee maker that had little to no pack volume since we are taking Bromptons and space is at a premium. The dripper for us, never nested in any of our pots but was in a separate bag and took up space. Hence a search for an alternative. That is true that it is a bit more active process and we can't just let it drip through while in camp. We'll probably experiment with only agitating the first two minutes and letting it steep the remaining.

Dude, there is NO WAY I would be able to cope with that many complicated steps before having a cup of coffee. And waiting 4 minutes? Idon'tthinkso.

:) I know. Touring has its challenges. Its not all downhills and drinks with little beach umbrellas as some would make you think :) |
I love the idea of frothing instant milk! If you have not already tried it, get some Nestle Nido which is powdered whole milk, the flavor is 100x better than normal powdered milk. You can find it in the ethnic food section of most superstores, here it's in walmart and kroger.
