Touring plans made public, yet not assualted or molested and house not burgled

When I announced that I had created a way to save the plans I create for my bike tours and to make them public (announced in this thread), someone expressed concern that putting such "details" on the internet would lead to people lying in wait for me by the side of the road and/or people locating my house and breaking in while I was away.

I realize my experience is only one data point, but after listing my bike touring plans for the world to see, no one jumped out of the bushes and stole my gear, robbed me, threatened me in any way, or found out where I live and broke into my house.

Further, the links I put on-line came in handy many times while I was on the road and needed to refer to things I'd stored there. The best part, though, is that this information is now available to anyone else who might be planning a bike trip in the UK.

I fully intend to continue doing my planning this way and hope that people will join me in creating yet more resources for the bike touring community.

In fairness when I commented on something similar (it might have been your thread, I forget) I never said those things would happen, I just said the likelihood of those things happening would be increased if you made the information public. Your one data point provides no conclusion regarding the accuracy or otherwise of that opinion.

In my opinion, that's just plain rediculous for reasons that are so obvious they need not be enumerated.

I have noticed a lot of fear-related threads this year. People afraid of theft. People afraid of violence. People afraid of spiders. I won't be surprised if someone starts a fear of shaddows thread. "I am wondering if anyone has had any problem with their own shaddow obscuring debirs in the road, sauch as glass and/or potholes."

Would or could? For example, how would chances be increased if, say, no one saw the information? How would they be increased if only people who saw the information have no means identify his address or meet up with him on the road and rob him?

Everyone knows that cyclist are poor, with nothing to steal except their bicycle. And since your bicycle was with you on tour, why even bother breaking into your house.

We leave in culture dominated by fear. People are scared of everything before they even know what it is.

I'm scared of getting hit by a driver. The threat of being robbed roadside seems relatively small.

Great Digs............ read your thread and stayed at your place while you were away and may have borrowed one of your jumpers, but I washed everything I used and put everything back the way you left it so you wouldn't know and obviously you didn't. ;-)
Look foward to it again
Bike Stalker

On a serious note, my wife and I are touring the UK shortly and every bit of information has been greatly appreciated
Thanks

I leave for work the same time every day and anyone who see's me on the road or see's me leave knows that ... they also could easily know my schedule of days I'm normally out of the house in the evening. Sure posting on the internet is a little different but they'd have to be smarter criminals to handle that...

So if they want to break in they have plenty of time.... but good luck getting passed my dog....
