Camping on Skyline drive is plentiful. On the Blue Ridge Parkway not so much. Services are scarce on the BRP. You often need to leave the parkway which in many cases means a extremely steep descent and a tough climb back up in the morning.

The riding is very nice on both, but be extremely careful in the fog.

Get a copy of "Bicycling the Blue Ridge" and scope things out.

There's some long, steep, dry stretches on the BRP, and store/restaurants are usually a few miles down hill (with a nice climb to get back up!).

The speed limit is 45 mph or less, sight lines are usually decent, views off the road are good to great, and (except on weekends and during fall "color" season) traffic is moderate, so cycling is pleasant. (Be very careful if it's foggy, though.)

Can you go later or be flexible with your schedule? There may still be snow in April and I have read that they generally just close the gates rather than plow.
