Anyone tour in South Texas?
 

I have a toured a fair amount in Vermont and New York, and of course Quebec, but I am headed south for 5 months (Dec to April) and would like to tour Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. What is the touring like in southern Texas? Any ideas where I should go? What is the weather like in January and February?
Any helpful info is welcome!

Using a mtn or road bike depends on what the roads are like. I will consider either. If there are an abundant amount of good paved roads I will use the road bike, but I would also consider hitting some gravel backroads with a mtn bike.
What is it like for weather in South New Mexico and Arizona? I am open to all 3 of those states and it could be around and during Christmas season. What would you recommend for the best weather and most enjoyable roads and favorable winds?
What about the Great Divide Mtn bike trail doing just the southern portion or is there too much snow? I have no idea, being a Canadian, what the weather is like there? For me during the winter biking is not possible even at sea level! :-)
