Selected photos from my recent tour in the Pacific Northwest

I have selected 19 photos from my recent tour (Aug 22, 2011 to Sept 2, 2011) from Bellingham, WA to Newberg, OR. Rained all day on first day and then none from there on. Some wonderful sunny days in Washington and mostly overcast days in Oregon.

Here is one of the photos. It is a view of the Oregon Coast just south of the happening tourist town of Cannon Beach, OR.

Complete journal will follow in a few weeks.

I've rode this trip three times and hope to do it once more before I get too old. It has to be one of the best rides in the U.S.

Yes the PNW is beautiful when its warm and sunny but in the middle of February when the sun hasn't been shining for 4 or 5 months and its dark at 4:00pm and hasn't stopped raining for at least a month you would be singing a different tune. I just about go nuts from Jan. to March and this year we didn't have summer until the middle of August and its looking like it may be over for good for this year. I love it too in the nice weather but when I retire I'm outta here for the month of Feb and part of March till the days get longer

I agree - I now spend the 9 month Puget Sound Winter riding in San Diego

I've lived between Tacoma and Bellingham for over 38 of the last 45 years and have been a year round (rain snow wind heat) bicycle rider during all those years. In 2001 I made the mistake of taking my sailboat and bicycles to the Sea of Cortez where I sailed and rode for 3 years. I brought the boat back to Puget Sound at the end of 2004.

Now I am ruined for the PacNW - I can't bring myself to ride in any temperatures below 60 nor can I stand the rain.

I took the boat back to San Diego last fall. I ride in the NW mid-July thru mid-October and the rest of the time I am in bicycle heaven - San Diego County.

Seems about perfect to me
