Our steel tandem, with pedals, cages, fenders and mudflaps, rack, dual aero bars, computers, and lights, weighs 43.4 lbs.. We add a total of 43 lbs., without water, to that when we go camp-touring.

My DIY full-suspension crank-forward rig with fenders, cages, computer and rear light (no racks, rackless setup) was at 48 lbs a few weeks ago. The final weight will probably be closer to 47 after I am done with the frame mods. The bags, gear, food for a day and 2L of water probably add 30 lbs on top of that, though I hope to trim that down a bit too.

As it can be inferred from the figures, my main concern is on-bike comfort, and camp comfort is secondary. I did find it a bit too spartan lately so I added another pound to the gear by including a cooking set. I think I previously underestimated the effect hot food will have at the end of the day.

I had to smile at your post as my reaction was similar the moment I took my first touring bike build off of the stand. I didn't weigh it until this thread, which was probably a good thing. :)

I just returned from a "shake-down" tour on my newly built Surly LHT. With a Brooks B-68 saddle, Schmidt SON 28 dyno hub, Surly Nice front Rack, Blackburn Expedition rear rack, three stainless steel King waterbottle cages, and Schwalbe 26x2.0 Marathon tires --- the weight was 37.5 pounds.

The dyno hub added about 1 pound over a standard hub, the Nice front rack adds another 1.5 pound more that a Tubus, those heavy Schwalbe tires probably add another 0.3 pounds over a similiar Pasella tourguard tire.

If I take all of those "added weights" due to my choice of components - the LHT in touring weight would weigh in around 35 pound --- about average!.

Also - I need to add that I'm running Planet Bike Cascadia fenders, and two stainless steel chainrings. Oh yeah - the frame is a 56cm.

My Surly DT is about 32 pounds with Nice Rack, P.B. Cascadia Fenders, 3 cages and wired computer. Not too shabby, though I am planning on adding a Tubus Duo front rack this year which could add a touch of weight.

Mine is 30 lbs with with fenders, front bag, rear rack and saddle bag with some stuff in it it is a 58cm

surly disc trucker 700c 62cm frame, shimano SLX groupo with hydro dual control brake/shifters, 52mm VO metal fenders, brooks flyer saddle, velocity chukker rear wheel, racks, bags and water bottle cages as shown (but nothing in the bags/no water bottles)

34.8Lbs... heavy but will be less than 10% of the rider/load weight
