Rims for 700c disc wheels
With a lot of new disc bikes coming out does anyone have recommendations For rims, probably run 28 or 32 tires
|
The old stand bys Mavic A-719 and Sun CR-18

I used the Velocity Synergy OC. The off-center drilling leads to very even spoke tension across both sides of the wheel, despite the dishing necessary to accommodate the brake disc. Seems like this could lead to longer wheel life and less truing, but I only have a few thousand miles on the wheels so far...

Mavic 319's are good and cheaper.

Tn719
i had a pair made up using Mavic TN 719 with 32 spoke 3X, a very strong wheel set, not yet fitted anything smaller than 32mm but i think 28's would be fine.
its the same rim extrusion as the XM 719 for the 26" which is a very well regarded rim. also they look very cool with no rim breaking area too. |
With discs, you have more rim options, but there is no reason not to use rim-brake compatible rims if they are what you need. Plus, that makes your wheels more versatile if you have both brake styles in the stable.

Mavic A719s and Velocity Dyads always seem to be neck and neck in the reviews. If you want bombproof go for the Velocity Chukkers, although they weigh twice what the Dyads weigh @ 2 pounds apiece. Peter White says " these are the strongest rims I have". I don't know if Velocity came out with the Psychos before or after Peter wrote that, if after than those may be the toughest rims made?
