Radio

OK. I've read the "Speakers" thread, so no need to rehash that.

I want to know what luck you've had with a radio that has good FM reception, with low sensitivity to antenna positioning and high resistance to fade out/bleed over? In other words, have you found a portable, small FM radio that's at least half as good as your car radio? Digital music player feature is optional. Out-of-the box, off-the-wall ideas welcomed.

My Walkman doesn't meet my criteria. Too sensitive to antenna positioning. Maybe they all are.

I'm outfitting my new bent for touring, collecting all the bells and whistles for long days on the saddle.

You mean during riding? Nope, but I haven't really searched. My small Sony is very sensitive to antenna positioning, but it's mostly used in camp, so I have time to monkey around with it until the reception is good enough.

Could a steel frame be used as an antenna?

I am looking for a small FM/weather radio to take when I camp at the end of the day. Any suggestions on a light weight one with speaker?

I've discovered that many of the speaker/earbud models use the earbud wiring as an antenna. Without the earbud plugged in, no reception. With the plug in, no speaker. Strange engineering.

An Amazon search will bring up a bunch of FM/weather radio combos. This one has a telescoping antenna and ok reviews. No evidence of earbud capability tho. Priced right. 8 oz sans batteries.

Midland makes an excellent weather-only portable. I've had it for several years.

Do you have a flag on your 'bent? Seems like a good place to run a piece of wire as an antenna.
