My Hammock and bike enroute to Washington DC.
Hammock set up at the YMCA in Cumberland, MD in their pavilion. They were very accommodating.

anto, snow and especially wet snow can get incredibly heavy, so we have to take that into account over here (especially if its a public structure, vis-a-vis being extra safe)

oh dont think us Irish could handle all that snow the country came to a stand still exactly this time last year with 4 foot of snow never has Ireland seen the like.

Speaking of snow-- Same tent, Sierra Design Lightning, shown in earlier post (110 degrees F in Portugal). Pretty versatile "3 season" tent pictured in the Oregon Cascades (well below 32 degrees F). Same Thermarests, but very different sleeping bags.
Tent and bikes in Juntura, Oregon (2007) just before a windstorm hit blowing over several of these large cottonwood trees adjacent to the campground. Tent did fine. Between down trees and a wildfire, the road was closed all night. The small town, about 160 population, played host to a 100 or so stranded motorists.

Ready to settle in. Surly LHT, Kelty Grand Mesa 2. This tent is really light for a two person, self standing type tent. I got it on sale, but even when not on sale it is very cost effective. So far it has served me well...I haven’t gotten a drop on the inside yet...and I went through a pretty rough rain and wind storm one night that had me dressed inside and ready to bail out for fear of a tornado somewhere outside. The tent stayed up regardless of the winds and I stayed dry even though the rain was coming at me horizontally and like a cow *&^%ing on a flat rock in volume.

Vain, But Lacking Talent
Random shot from my last trip that happened to have my tent. 
Mine is the Eureka Spitfire on the right. I can pitch the body and fly tight with just 4 MSR needle stakes. So with a separate stuff sack and keeping the poles loose elsewhere, I've got it down to 2 pounds for the shelter.
That was actually the first time it got a full rain test. Some really heavy storms came in the second night and it worked beautifully. I didn't sleep so well, because I kept waiting for the first leak to start dripping, but it never did.
Next time I'll sleep more peacefully. The tent to the left was a no name borrowed tent. Poor buddy (poster JeremyLC, whose bike is pictured here) woke up in a puddle.

Obligatory blurry shot from the first tour earlier this year:
Camping in Voorhees State Park (NJ). Pictured are Kona Sutra which fared nicely and Kelty Grant Mesa which didn't. Replacing with a smaller, lighter, better ventilated tent for my next tour.

Ha! Yeah, this was in Cedar Hill State Park on Joe Pool Lake. We had been having a pretty massive drought and there were massive cracks in the ground where the soil had dried up. We put the bike there for fun, but moved it later just in case someone stumbled over it at night and tacoed the wheels. But man, after that rain came, that soil turned into slick, slick clay.

Here's my Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL1 not far from Rochester, VT on the banks of the White River. It was a great spot: just far enough away from the road to be out of sight, yet close enough to the water so that sounds from the stream covered any from traffic. I slept for about twelve hours that night (blog post)!
My LHT is under the blue tarp, which is actually just the rainfly from an older tent.
