Highlight of your 2011 Touring
Hi
As the year comes to a close, how about sharing a highlight from one your riding tours in 2011. Let us have a virtual taste of where you went this year. Photos including the bike are not compulsory but lets stick to photos from bike tours in 2011. Do tell us a bit about the tour or link to a blog/journal etc. To get things rolling here is a little taste from my aborted ride of the Munda Biddi in July 2011. Riding here in Western Australia, we don't have big mountains and vistas so my best picture from my one and only tour this year is something I don't experience to often, a North Bannister traffic jam ... http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6016/5...26612bba_z.jpg and a little taste of the Munda Biddi Trail/Old Timberline Trail http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6125/5...9fb87165_z.jpg http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6137/5...73ff9c6d_z.jpg Thread idea stolen from CTC again and a thanks to master6 for motivating me to follow-up with this thread :) Andrew |

Solo tours are fun, but touring with a group has its own unique rewards. Four of us 'mature' gentlemen, oldest 75, set out together to conquer NE Oklahoma in October. Much fun.

I did two tours in 2011. The first was in the UK from Lands End to Fort William and then back down (journal here). This is the view across Loch Linnhe southwest of Fort William, Scotland

Well, this past year I didn't get to do a long tour, mostly weekend trips. The highlight for me was definitely the trip to Mount Rainier. The biking was alright, but the destination was amazing.

Great idea Aushiker! I'm really enjoying everyones pictures! That Old Timberline Trail looks awesome!
I posted a trip report of my trip this summer, but here's a link to a slideshow of a trip I took two summers ago. Central Oregon Coast to Cascades. |

Without a doubt, our highlight from 2011 was the day we arrived into Ushuaia. We had been working on getting there for nearly 3 years and had pedaled 17,300 miles. I will never forget that day!

A few shots from my Pacific Coast tour:
http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...ay4propjpg.jpg Astoria http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...j1/deerJPG.jpg These two wandered right through camp with no concern about the humans there. http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...1/P9040707.jpg Typical view on the Oregon Coast. http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...1/P9050727.jpg A great lunch at Bandon OR. http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...1/P9100833.jpg California had some great sections of Redwood Forrest. http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...1/P9120850.jpg I thought the canopy over the road was intriguing. http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...1/P9200940.jpg Big Sur The Pacific Coast is a great place to tour and I really enjoyed it. In addition to the nice hiker/biker campsites, beautiful scenery, and good roads there were lots of other cyclists to camp with. Once I was in Oregon the fewest in the hiker biker area was three and I think there were as many as twenty one night. Since we were all headed south and staying in hiker/biker sites I made a lot of friends and managed to stay with folks that I knew night after night. They were a great bunch and added immensely to the experience. |
^ Nice shots!!!

This past summer was my first unsupported tour. Three of us rode from Maine to Oregon. Lots of folks from Bike Forums helped to make it a fabulous trip. From route planning to riding with people half my age to Slickers Ice Cream in Ontario, you guys covered it all. Thank You! The trip was one of the highlights of my life.
