so what kind of a person are you looking to tour with ,is this your tour and your just looking for company ,or will your new buddy have a say in the planning.Dont mean to be a smart ass but you should give a bit more info.

+1 for the following reasons:

1. Riding alone is not a problem. This can be quite pleasant.
2. You will in all probability meet other folks along the way going the same way that you are. I know that we did on the TA. It is a sure thing that you will meet other riders on the Pacific Coast, in Oregon and California I never camped alone in any of the hiker biker sites. There was anywhere from 2-20 other cyclists in camp everynight. The NT probably will not have as many riders as the PC, but you will be able to meet and camp with other cyclists if you want to.
3. Groups split pretty often anyway, so even if you start out with someone be prepared to be alone. Family groups and longtime friends managed better than strangers who got together for the tour, but even long time friends had a high rate of splitting up. We met a lot of solo riders who started out with someone.

I know the meaning of split cause I experienced once when I was traveling on the Tibetan plateau. My partner just left me. He told me he wanted something "new" so he left...
Anyway, there is a saying that one person goes very fast and a couple lasts very long. That is probably true, in my eye.

If it were summer 2014 and you were open to a somewhat different (and longer) route, I'd be in...I'm already planning that trip! Good luck finding someone and go for anyway even if you have to go alone...

Just "Google" or search for BOB trailer, Burley Nomad trailer, or bicycle trailer. You should find somethings useful. I no longer tour with a trailer, I have found I prefer panniers much more.

I am planning a mirror ride of you. Starting in San Bernandino and heading to New York. I will pray for you and ask that you succeed in making it to Los Angeles. When you get to California there is a trail called the Pacific Electric Inland Empire Trail. It will take you almost to the 605 freeway where there is smooth sailing down the wash to the Beach. I believe its Huntington. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe.

Don't be too concerned about finding a riding partner. The odds of it working out for such a long ride are really pretty small. And, as noted, you'll meet lots of fellow travelers on any ACA route in the summer.

Oh yeah...like people have said, be careful who you commit to a long trip with. Speaking from personal experience, the number of people in a group beyond one exponentially increases the amount of conflict, different ideas of what makes a good trip, slowdowns for one person's sake, and so forth. If you do join up with people you don't really know, make sure it's clear that each person can, if need be, split off and be self-sufficient so that you're not stuck with a bunch of people you end up hating, or who end up wanting to ride at a very different pace than you do, or who have a different level of commitment to premade route plans than you do, etc.

I'll be leaving DC on May 19th heading northwest to pick up the Northern Tier somewhere in Ohio or Indiana I imagine. I'm pretty sure I will follow the NT all the way to Seattle. Some have suggested heading due west from Illinois to Yellowstone and then turning north from there. I haven't made up my mind yet but will post the route once finalized.

You might want to bike to Grand Teton National Park, which is in the south of Yellowstone, and then no need to go to seattle.
