Yeah ... IMHO even if you are going to base your opinions on someone else's gear, then surely the thought train is "that person has Ortlieb panniers => that person buys quality gear"?

If you really feel the need to judge a tourer it should be on how much fun they're having or how successful they are in achieving their goals, whatever they may be.
