Route 1 in Florida all bike friendly?

I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not you can bike pretty much all of route 1 (Dixie Hwy) in FL? I am doing ACA's southern tier route later next month and instead of ending in St. Augustine I would like to keep on rolling down to West Palm Beach where my family has a beach house so I can relax at the beach for a few days after my journey. I haven't gone over every square mile on Google Maps, but every section of route 1 that I randomly clicked on and street viewed were very bike friendly (even had a bicycle lane). So, does anyone know if it would be possible to ride Route 1 all the way from St. Augustine to West Palm Beach?

In 2008 I road A1A and Route 1 the entire length of Florida. I mostly stuck to the coast and A1A mixed with some Route 1. Like everywhere, I found it to be a mixed bag. It's all bike-able with route 1 being generally faster, with some nice bike lanes, but less interesting than A1A. After finishing the Southern Tier (which I did in 2010) you'll have no problem.

I agree with BigAura, stay on 1A or A1A where possible. US-1 has plenty of stretches that are dead boring. Not all of the beach route has a broad shoulder or bike lane, but the traffic is slower.

A1A is the more scenic and peaceful ride. Most of the services are on Rt 1 though (Food, motels, bike shops, etc). You get to climb over some nice tall bridges spanning the intercoastal waterway to connect the two routes several times. I found Rt 1 to be dreadfully boring, lots of fast guys in pickup trucks. Good news, it is all Florida flat so easy pedaling, but the wind can come from any direction and with flat land, it can run 10-15 mph in your face all day, but I guess you have plenty of that crossing the ST.
