I bet he is an interesting guy to talk to, I just always wonder, how the hell do you fund such a thing?

That sure is a lot of travelling, but how did he get to 257 countries? I thought there were fewer than 200...

He talks about that in one of the videos. He started out with a little money then began writing his booklet and selling it directly to people on the street. Occasionally he still does that to supplement his sponsorship income. Needless to say, he is incredibly frugal.

I haven't checked his claim/math, but over fifty years there have been a fair number of countries come and go. Example: visit USSR in 1970s, visit Russia in 1990s. It's the same geography, but there would be two different passport stamps.

192 members of UN + 61 colonies = 253 "countries". Add to that some disputed territories and principalities...
