the invisible helmet

Have you sometimes been thinking about to have a helmet that does not ruin your hair or look.

Look at this Swedish invention. http://www.hovding.se/sv/film/

Ok, I know this is little bit out of topic but it is such a nice product.

Thulsadoom 02-23-12 08:14 AM

I don't really get it....were those people wearing bike helmets?

Lao 02-23-12 08:40 AM

Yeah, kind of. Did you look at the other videos below? There you can see how it works.

johamatt 02-23-12 08:54 AM

Yes, scroll down a little and look at the first film car/bicycle collision.

I'm not even sure how to respond to that. I guess it would work well for commuting? Wonder what it looks like to hit a pot hole at 30mph and go over the handlebars or what it would have looked like with the Tour de France press guy hit Johnny Hoogleland(sp) and he went into that barbed wire fence?

I guess the key is in the product description:

"Hövding is a collar for bicyclists, worn around the neck. The collar contains a folded up airbag that you'll only see if you happen to have an accident. The airbag is shaped like a hood, surrounding and protecting the bicyclist's head. The trigger mechanism is controlled by sensors which pick up the abnormal movements of a bicyclist in an accident."

Now they just have to come out with some way to keep you from messing up your hair ..... and blend a bulky collar in seamlessly with a spandex outfit! ;)

airbag, hmmm, could get weird

When people see my helmet dangling from my handlebars and ask what good it will do me there, I explain, "I plan to put it on if I'm about to get into an accident." Now that can finally, actually be true.

pandi 02-23-12 01:31 PM

It took me a bit to get it. The airbag idea..very interesting..

AdamDZ 02-23-12 03:11 PM

I want a force field. Nothing less would satisfy me. Oh, and it has to run on AA batteries too.

Booger1 02-24-12 03:29 PM

Interesting....Hope it doesn't cost as much as airbags in cars do.

bradtx 02-24-12 05:39 PM

Do I have this correct? One is replacing an inert helmet, for something worn around the neck that has some sort of explosive device, just to keep my hair style oh just so?

This helmet will do very well for many of the 50+ riders

An interesting concept, but having that bulk around my neck would make me NUTS. But then of course, I am just SO worried about my coif when I'm sweating through the miles and wind and rain and perhaps not even getting to shower during my overnight camp. ;)
