Clothing Question

My wife and I have been doing some 2 week tours on our tandem. Now we will be doing a 4 week tour in late August. Most of the time I just wear my cycling shorts and a jersey and I am fine. But when there is a chill I sometimes put on a vest that has removable sleeves. It is a Cannondale. But I get clammy. So I am not sure what to wear underneath for a base layer. When I wear my wool arm warmers under it it is OK but my torso is still clammy. This also happens in cold weather.
We talked about getting SmartWool tops. But would appreciate so suggestions.
Thanks!

I would try Icebreaker GT150 (their lightest weight wool). Not sure how that compares to your Smartwool tops but. May well be the same outcome.

We usually wear fleece, and if needed, a wind breaker or rain coat over that.

Look for polypro.

I've got a collection of really nice, comfortable long-sleeved polypro tops for cooler weather.

On our upcoming tour, for cooler weather on or off the bicycle, I'm planning to take 1-2 polypro tops and 1 merino wool.

Craft undershirt, poly arm warmers and leg warmers. PI vest with a mesh back. For spring and temps in the 40s, sub a long-sleeve Craft. Craft makes many different models. We use one of the medium cold-weather undershirts, which they don't make any more - it used to be the only one. I've had mine for 15 years and they don't show wear. Your jersey also may not transport moisture as well as some of the newer materials. For jackets, we use super light microfiber non-waterproof; no pockets, no fur ruff. For touring, we also take ordinary looking WP breathable hiking jackets, 13 oz., for in town use not bike.
