Built up Surly Cross-Check with a Long Haul Trucker Fork
I'm trying to put together the most versatile bike possible. I want to be able to go fast (possibly race some cross events) and then make a few changes with tires and stuff, throw some racks on, and do some serious touring. Would this be possible with a cross-check frame and a 700c long haul trucker fork. I'm aware of some pedal overlap issues with the cross-check but don't think that'll be much of problem.
Is this a good idea or am I just making stuff up.

sounds like a good idea to me. you'll increase the wheelbase i tiny bit with the extra rake of the lht fork, and maybe it has more brazeons for racks, fenders.
