Tour with a CPAP
 

Anyone ever tour with a CPAP?

Would love to camp out when touring but with CPAP I am limited.

I get by without mine by using Breath Rite strips & rolling a towel under my head, to keep it in the right position.

This would work for short term tours, but I would think that extended ones would require some sort of power system for the cpap. Maybe solar or from wheel rotation? I'm interested as well, because I use a cpap in my daily life. May be a niche market for Remstar or another maufacturer? I know there are portable ones available, but the batteries need to be re-charged.

I guess I'm addicted but really don't like to sleep without my machine.

I just got back from a one week camping tour from Toronto to Montreal and simply planned ahead and booked an electrical campsite each night. It took away some spontaneity and was a bit pricey for electric & reserved campsites but worked out well. I took 30' of light non-grounded extension cord (the cpap only has two wires) and ran it into the tent.

There are batteries available but they only last one night and need to be recharged anyway. Still might get one to restore the spontaneous thing.

I've used a noise activated recorder at least 6 times, and I don't snore in my hammock. I don't know if I stop breathing, but I'm not hauling it around.

I've toured without CPAP twice for 2 nights each and had no problems, being exhausted from a day of summer ridding might have helped. We were CC touring and I had a nice comfy bed in cool air conditioning each night. I think it is an individual thing and something you may wish to consult your doctor about. My doc told me that I've been living without it for years so a couple of nights ins't going to hurt, note that I have borderline mild/moderate sleep apnea.

Either a battery powered unit or electric hookup campsites.

How is the charge time on the battery units? If the battery can charge in a couple hours you could probably plug it in if you eat at a restaurant for lunch or dinner and just take your time there.

Although this thread is a few years old, I thought I might add to it. I use a Respironics CPAP Machine and found a battery pack for it on Amazon. The battery pack lasts me a couple nights, then I have to find a motel to run my machine on AC and let the battery pack recharge a full 8 hours.

Last summer I rode from Vancouver, BC to SF with a cpap. I used the Transend Auto CPAP.

It worked well. I charged the battery at lunch or at the campsight and never ran out of power and used it every night.

On a prior shorter tour I brought my Resmed S9 with humidifier without the battery. Stayed in motels. It's a lot bigger and heavier.

The Transend worked well and was never a big problem.
