Cortina or better base for cycling?

We're cycling around the Alps and will be arriving in Cortina in a few days. We'll probably drop our bags and do some local rides for a few days and I'm wondering if Cortina is a good base or if there are better locations. I noticed that one of the cycle touring companies bases their rides out of Alleghe.
Thanks for any suggestions.
