Especially when Walmart encourages camping in cars/rv's/etc. in their parking lots...

Criticizing somebody’s ILLEGAL behaviour is one thing, but you are calling people names and making personal characterizations, which I thought to be verboten on this site. Constantly referring to perfectly reasonable people as "snobs" is just ridiculous. You are also extremely condescending.

This is why you came across as a rich snob to the other poster if you didnt notice.
Oh, but I am a rich starbucks-swilling snob! Look, don't hate me because I'm rich. I'm just like the rest of you, only a lot richer (and probably more beautiful as well). What can I say? Owning a Lexus and living in a 16 bedroom manse overlooking the ocean can make you snobby.

Some of you are clearly defensive about your wealth, or lack thereof. You should work through your insecurities instead of denigrating people who like to spend more when they travel. Just because people spend $5k on their bike trips doesn’t make them morally inferior to you. Your adventures are no more authentic than theirs simply because you spend less money.

Really? On my planet, millions of people are starving, millions more, possibly billions, are living in poverty and do not have the luxury to take time off work (if they had any work at all). Do you have any appreciation for how lucky we are? In my opinion, travelling is a luxury and I am grateful for every minute that I spend doing it, knowing that many people around the world are unable to. My point is that you don't take your good fortune and disrespect the laws and customs of the places you have the luxury of visiting. If you can't afford to travel in a legal and respectful manner then stay home! And more importantly, stay off of my estate!

A relative of mine is in law enforcement. How about I ask him what he thinks and I will post the conversation here? Will you all take his word as gospel? Would you respect the opinion of a man who risks his life everyday in order to maintain law and order?

Something tells me the answer is "no". I think "respect" is a concept a lot of people here are not familiar with.

If you check every one of your posts, they start out with an "ad hominem" attack, so don't get your panties in a wad. It doesn't impress me that you are rich, although it seems that you are not only ungracious, but that you take pleasure from trivializing the problems of those "beneath" you. I never said it was wrong to spend 5k on a tour, just that it was silly to spend 5k for a short 2 day jaunt, but whatever floats your boat. The pricetag you put on your happiness might be different for one of us faceless rabble. Go read "Cigar Afficianado" if you can't handle a public forum, gramps.

What is your problem? I have a lot of sympathy for the little people, okay? I often let my relatives sleep in the Lexus when the guesthouse is full. And when I catch stealth campers on my estate, I always give a 10 second grace period before I unleash my mastiffs. So, don't say I don't care, because I do!

The answer for my part is no. And it has got nothing to do with respect. Why should I (or "we all") listen to your relative explaining what is "normal human behaviour" for him? Except perhaps out of curiosity?

Get your mastiffs back on the leash, they're pooping all over the street .

We've all done dumb things. Ok maybe all the rest of you are perfect. I'VE DONE DUMB THINGS! But why brag about it? It makes car slaves think "Bikers don't respect private property... they break and enter, too!" Even if you didn't break and enter. And of course, the rest of us get to hear about it from the fat-ass car-ophiles.

this thread sucks now.

the only reason i started it is beacuse i was thinking about some of the amusing place I've "stealth camped" on roadtrips, bike trips, whatever. I wanted to hear about what amusing places y'all have stealth camped.

i really don't give a crap about what you guys' moral/ethical/personal beliefs are. i don't regret any of the places i've stayed, and i'm sure i'll stay even wierded places as my days go on.

Thanks Teadog, that was very gracious of you. I found the rest of your original posting damned interesting and I apologize for not giving you a well-deserved bushel of carrots while I whacked at you with the stick. Have a great day!

I don't know, but doesn't the thread title include the word "weird"? Why are people arguing about "normal human behaviour"?

I have never done the Super Tour each late December down the Baja peninsula from Mexicali to sometimes the tip of Baja..Some cycling friends have completed this tour , often multiple times..They take like 2/3 weeks...
So those that have tell stories of one time they stay in what they think to be abandoned structures...They do a combination camp/hotel kind of bike tour...So like half way down the peninsula they stay in what looks like to them to be an abandoned barn...It was not abandoned..They were on someone property..
So half way through the night, some locals come with machetes..It is good a couple members spoke excellant Spanish..They got themselves out of a sticky situation...Glad I was not there..I would have ruined by sleeping bag..
