Seems like the IDEA of 1.5 bicycle is live and kicking A lot of people are touring on these
Surly Big Dummy Maximum cargo including rider (recommended) 180 kg / 400 Yuba Mundo Price 200 kg / 440lbs* Bike Weight (complete) So why we had here so much criticism about my approach with triangle/square/triangle geometry instead of classic diamond bike |

if you build the frame from inexpensive (free!) cast-iron water pipe,
you'll be able to store water in the frame while riding. think of the weight savings not having all those water bottle cages! oh, and here be some folk who've already done it: http://www.treehugger.com/bikes/bicy...exhibit-a.html http://www.craigtozzi.com/sportsdesk...lingsummit.jpg |
Why limit yourself to just a tandem? I'd think a quadricycle or perhaps a pedicab would give you more space for all your extra drugs and water. Plus think about all the non existant problems you cold solve with three empty seats or more! If you were smart about it you wouldnt need any extra boxes for shipping , just add wings and fly that **** yourself! Come to think of it you might need more empty seats. Or more drugs. Either way we need to start thinking bigger.

As I recall, several people recommended those to you, myself included. You dismissed them, for some reason I don't care to look up.
SO why do You recommend similar idea but criticize proposed design |

I admire the way you keep your replies short......a design drawing of what you propose would be good. Once you've toured on your creation I think we'll have some answers to the pros and cons of your idea.
do you have small speck of imagination ?? IMAGINE tandem , but shorter by 1/4 no double pedals only LONGER chain without second seat or anything designed for stoker |

Sounds like the OP is test marketing an idea before actually exerting any real effort or making any investment. From the responses so far, it appears to be a complete flop (other than the entertainment value). The fact that the OP cannot or will not produce even a rudimentary drawing is telling.

what you are trying to do ? help or keep throwing rusty wrenches into this discussion if you really STILL need a sketch or drawing after all this then please do not HELP ANYMORE |
green horn,
sorry if this has been asked, but how much riding have you done? More to the point, have you ever ridden a fully loaded touring bike? What kinds of adjustments have you made to try and cope with issues you may have had? I think the problem people are having with your idea is that it's a fix to a problem that doesn't exist in their eyes. If you have some real evidence, maybe a blog from a tour or something to that effect with pictures and stories of how you would prefer your bike to be configured a certain way and why, then your ideas would have more merit to this community. Actually seeing your current bike may help quite a bit if you have a picture. Perhaps you don't need a redesign so much as a readjustment and some nice equipment. The reason I ask is really the 20 gallon argument you made. I have read of people crossing remote sections of the himalayas without near that much water. |
Ideas that ask why are pretty safe, because they are relevant.
Ideas that ask why not are dangerous, you can end up inventing the mesh umbrella all over again if you're not careful. |

I am ready to attach 19.5" frame to 21" frame by cutting rear frame in two places and brazing in four. After the contraption will prove the concept , frame will be built with 1.5 sets of tubes and lugs. |
