What do you sit on?
If there is one thing I mean to have with me, but never do, is a chair. I always end up having to lay inside the tent instead of sitting, enjoying a beer after a long day's ride. What chairs, if any, do you suggest?

Honey chile - I sit on what God gave me to sit on.
But really, I have this ancient hard helmet that makes for a nice low stool.
I know the styrofoam probably has dried out and doesn't meet ANSII standards anymore, but there's nothing out there that could serve the dual purpose - head protection during the day and fanny protection in camp.
I'm almost never in my tent until well after dark unless the mosquitos are intolerable. I always try to find a stump or big flat rock - the pointed rocks are problematic. Also I love to flop down in the grass and look up at the sky. I have enough stuff with packed with me as it is - don't need a chair.
Best - J

I use a Thermarest Trekker chair it goes in the bag with the thermarest mattress and is not heavy for the comfort it provides.

I use my thermarest as a chair. I don't use the chair kit, just sit on half and fold the other half up against a tree, boulder, wall, etc., to form the back. Simple and effective.

After 100 hard miles. I might even do a full reclining motion, grass preferably. ANything but a bed of nails.

On my tours, and when lashing my guitar (ooh sounds dirty) to my rack , I have what is a little tripod aluminum chair .. heres that Camp-time stool..theyre 14$ weight 11 oz, hold 250 pounds or more. but be prepared to change rubber caps if you use it on often on pavement.
and with a little pillow on it, i can play guitar for hours, make some cash, and perhaps nap if i lean on something. heres the heavier one with a back for 25$.
or you could just get the crazy creek camping chair that lays on the ground with 90 degrees for your back... but the ground can be a cold seat, i know.

I've had several varieties of seat. Started with a four-legged frame with "hammock" across the top (think angler's seat). When folded and put across the rear rack, it looked like I had rocket boosters on board.
Then I went to -=solewheelin's variety, but without the backrest.
I now have a thermarest type of seat, although I still haven't had the opportunity to use it six months since acquiring it. However, the reason is that when I get back into non-randonnee touring, I want a seat that I can use inside the tent when bad weather prevails. The aluminium-framed seats aren't quite practical because of headroom issues, and probably potential to pierce the tent floor.

Yep, if you have the thermarest seat AND have a Hilleberg Atko you can use it inside the tent as well. George.

A Hammock. That's where I sleep too. never get wet from the ground. string a lightweight tarp above for rain protection. sandwich a sleeping pad underneath to keep you toasty. the ultimate touring setup, imho. I always worry about having two trees to string it up, but I carry 50ft of rope and have always made it work.
second photo has the tarp setup (behind another guy's tent I met on the road)
