Salsa Vaya Ti

I wasn't planning on buying another bike. I already have 7, and thought that was pretty close to being out of control already. But Competitive Cyclist had 1 50cm 2012 Salsa Vaya Ti bike left, heavily discounted. I'd been wanting a ti frame (don't mind having a Salsa either), can't find any stock ones in my size, and wasn't ready to get a custom. So I just bought the little bike. It's spec'd pretty nicely with 9 sp XT and 165mm Sugino cranks. Planning on using it mostly as a commuter, it may replace my LHT.

Looks like Salsa won't be offering the Vaya ti frame for 2013, so this may be my last chance to get one. I think Lynsky makes the frames.

Any other Vaya ti owners?

Nice! I don't own one, but would love to if they made the larger sizes to wear 26" wheels. I have a feeling you are going to find that bike more responsive, lively, and comfortable based a comparison of the geometries. If so, I would let the LHT pay for a good bit of the Vaya by selling it off. Congratulations on a really nice new acquisition. Let us know how you like the Vaya as you put a few more miles on it.

Russ and Laura of pathlesspedaled.com rode LHTs across the U.S. a few years ago. They've recently switched to Vayas. They posted their 1000-mile review, last week and it's quite positive.

You will love it. I have several bikes and if I had to go with one bike only, it would be the Vaya. I have the steel version in dark gray. It is an amazingly cool bike. I'm looking forward to your first impressions on the geometry/ride/feel.

I got a chance to look over this bike a bit. CC had built and tuned it, like any good bike shop, then repacked it and shipped it to me. I told them they didn't have to do that, as my bf is a bike mechanic (with his own personal shop in the basement), but it is their policy.

We put that wheels and handlebars on and I took it for a spin around the block at 9pm. I've been riding my Randonee commuter with loaded commuter panniers lately, so the Vaya felt light and frisky. I like the steering and balance of the Vaya better than my LHT. I had toe overlap with the LHT, the Vaya does not! It may be close with fenders though.

The fit seemed quite nice, but I'll know more when I swap out the Woodchipper bars (didn't like them). I'll be moving some of my good XT parts off my LHT to the Vaya. Not sure about the Brooks saddle yet.

The ti frame looks great! No paint or decals. I love the etching.

We are supposed to get a couple days of snow so I may not get to do much more with the bike for a few days. Once it's up and going I plan on riding the wheels off it.

Front racks?

My Blackburn lowrider front rack won't work on this bike with the disc brakes. So I need to find another lowrider rack. Any suggestions?

I don't like the look of the Down Under rack much. I was looking at the Tubus Tara. I can't find any info on whether it works with disc brakes though. Has anyone put a Tara on a Vaya?

Pictures !

What fork did it ship with? [I don't own that same bike] I can't guess, blind.

Where are the fittings to mount a rack, on the fork? that will help pick the rack fit match ..

Tara is likely to fit, since there is a bolt at the front of the top rail, and so the distance
between the fork tip eyelet ant the mid fork braze on can be adjusted .

I probably could mount the blackburn racks,
being old and from an age when we had shop classes in school..

by the way , whats wrong with the LHT?, need a 4 pannier load, ride it,
since, as in the post above, you, apparently own one.
