cross-country route

Hi all,

I got some great advice in the fall about choosing a cross-country route. So, I have some more specifics to put out there for comments.

Our trip blog is below. Not much there yet, but I have posted the outline of our trip and some sections. I would love some feedback or alternate suggestions. Keep in mind that we are definitely starting in Baltimore, are interested in the C&O Canal, and want to hit Lexington, Louisville, St. Louis, Denver and end up in Portland. I'm looking for the best routes between these places.

We'll be using paper maps and an Iphone to navigate.

We're starting in the middle of May and hope to get to Portland by the end of August or beginning of September. We don't have a deadline. Our plan is to camp a lot, but also stay with people along the way. Warmshowers or friends of friends.

Thanks all,
Eric

FYI, Rock slide closes C&O Canal’s Paw Paw Tunnel, from January this year. a thread here somewhere at bikeforums indicated it would be closed this summer because of this landslide, but you might want to check with the park service (https://www.nps.gov/choh/parknews/paw...nel-closed.htm), I don't think dragging loaded bikes up over the tunnel on the footpath is an option.

Thanks for the heads up. I saw that thread referenced yesterday. I guess we'll need to reroute. It's a bummer. I was looking forward to the canal.
