Looking for a nice road/offroad/dirt road route in Florida.

Looking to do a trip from central west coast of Florida to the keys.

Any good routes out there with some trails and roads? Or just roads?

(I have also posted this in the regional)

Thanks for any advice,

Jeremy

I used to live in the Keys.

Once you hit the Keys, you have exactly one road: U.S. 1. Use the bike path/lane when ever you can, starting in Key Largo. IN some locations, the bike path/lane is the sidewalk, as in, for instance, Marathon. For sections of U.S. 1 without the bike path/lane built yet, I strongly suggest riding against traffic, it is a lot easier to avoid the idiots traveling 65 - 70 mph while texting or putting on make up when they are headed at you where you can see them rather than from behind. Also, the bike path/lane changes sides (ocean side to bay side and back) several times. Most of the bridges have a pedestrian/biking/fishing walk/lane, use them.

For what it is worth, if there are less than 150 deaths on U.S. 1 in Monroe County in a year, they consider it a "good" year.

You will have to ride U.S. 1 from Florida City/Homestead to Key Largo (17 miles or so), there is a new wide shoulder, but it is a single lane divided highway - with a concrete center divider. The alternate route is a toll road with a narrow to zero shoulder.
