New, 2010 Aurora Elite

As some of you know, I lost my 2008 Fuji Touring in an accident, last May. I have several bikes in my garage, but none fit me as well as that one did. I attribute that primarily to it being my size but also having put so many miles on it, I had it dialed in. So I am finally getting my replacement tourer/commuter!

I ordered a 2010 Jamis Aurora Elite, last week from my LBS. I have always liked the Aurora Elite, but the last time I was in the market for a new bike, it was financially beyond my grasp. A couple of years ago, Jamis switched the Aurora from brifters to bar-end shifters. And that's great, if that's what you want. The last year they had brifters, they had switched the triple crank to a compact double. Again, great, if that's what you want. Well, neither of those features appealed to me. I wanted brifters and a triple crank. I dabbled with the idea of buying a 2013 model and modifying it or switching to a Bosanova (y'all might have seen my thread back in December: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...Jamis-Bosanova).

Then I ran across a bike shop in Reno NV called BicycleBananas that had a sizable selection in past-year models (including the 2010 Aurora Elite, in my size). I was going to order from them this month but they shut down their web-store and Reno store in early April.
I tried contacting them a couple of times because I figured they'd be trying to move their stock. I never did hear back. I then emailed Jamis, directly and found out that the Reno bike shop's web-store showing the selection of past-year models was actually linking to the stock sitting in Jamis' warehouse. All I had to do was go to my local Jamis dealer and they could tap into the same database for what was available. Needless to say, I was tickled to find out that Dallas Bike Works would be able to order it for me. As a bonus, I got to save the shipping fees that would have come along with ordering from Reno, NV.

So here's the catalog image and the image DBW just posted of my new bike, on their facebook page. I'll pick it up later this week and plan to start commuting on it next week with a camping trip not far behind.

Very nice. The actual colors look better than the catalog shot. I might very well have gotten an Aurora but Jamis won't just sell the frame & fork, at least not when I was looking at them. Coincidentally, the bike I ended up with -- Bob Jackson World Tour -- looks very similar to yours.

Just curious, what did the bike cost you?
