Thoughts on this route (CA)
 

My girlfriend and I are going to take our second annual train/bike trip to the Redwoods this summer and I'm starting to check out routes on Google maps and thought maybe someone here could shed some insight.
We basically have about 9 days to ride and we need to end up in Loomis, CA.
Here is what I've got so far.

The first part of the route, south to Leggett, is on the Pacific Coast route, so there will be many other cyclotourists and quite a few campgrounds with hiker-biker sites if you are camping. Clear Lake State Park also has HB sites, so you may want to detour around the south side of the lake to hit that campground.

Since you're seemingly willing to ride some gravel in exchange for less traffic, maybe you should look into Bartlett Springs Rd to Bear Creek out of Upper Lake as a substitute for some of hwy 20. I'm sure you will have had enough of hwy 20 by the time you reach Upper Lake.
