Pretend tour
Here's my big tour for the next 10 days (already started this morning):
50 miles per day on the scenic C&O Towpath and Mount Vernon Trail for five days, then 180 miles on the weekend on either the Great Allegheny Passage or C&O Towpath, and another 4 days at 50 miles a day on the C&O/MVT. In reality, the 50 mile days are riding to work and back, with a weekend overnight camping somewhere on the GAP or C&O Towpath. I know what you're thinking, but it's the best I can manage right now. Hey, lots of folks travel great distances to ride here, so why not pretend I'm touring. Long breaks during the day, free accomodations at night in a comfortable bed. OK, it's lame.:p |
Nothing at all wrong with this, in my opinion. It doesn't have to be labeled a "tour," if you think it's lame. 630 miles and eleven days on a bike is better than any tour I've ever taken!

If you are also bringing a crap load of stuffs to work and back, and sleep/cook in your back yard then it wouldn't be as lame :)

I'm trying out ultralight touring. So far, so good. I might break out the grill and set up the tent in the backyard for the full blown experience, but will surely be tempted to crawl into bed at 3 a.m. Does setting it up in the living room count? Those cicadas are really loud.

Day 1 (Miles 1-50): Today was a great success. Everything worked as planned, but legs are a little more tired than usual. Found a great wifi connection and a great B&B "Maison Moi." Now resting as I write this, planning for the next day's ride. I'll sleep well tonight, but not looking forward to the weather, which promises a bit of rain.
