Need a place to Camp near Denver, CO Int'l Airport

Can anyone help me find a place to camp?

I decided to live dangerously, and bought a ticket to Colorado for some bike touring. I'm headed south to warmer climates, probably Arizona.

My biggest (read: only) hurdle is getting the bike put back together in Denver and then moving on. I should be arriving at about 11 A.M.

Is there a place to pitch a 1-man tent within 30 miles or so of the airport? I tried messaging a few people on Warmshowers and didn't hear back.

Not camping, but there are quite a few warmshowers hosts there if that interests you. I spent one night hosted by a ws host before heading out and camping when I was there.

I've sent six messages and looked through about 50 members, but maybe I should be calling. I've only used Warmshowers once, and it was a friend of a friend. Any suggestions?

Check out Cherry Creek State Park, easy ride from DIA and they have campgrounds if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the info! Warmshowers works, I found a nice guy named Joe, so I'll make that my primary. I'll use Cherry Creek as a backup!

Appreciate it!

Glad you found a host. Some of my best times have been with WS hosts. Wish I were on the 'beaten path' to return the favor more often.

If you don't want to ride from the airport, there is RTD bus service (SkyRide, I think it's called) from the airport into Denver and various points in the metro area. Bus is about $13 to Boulder, so it shouldn't be more to Denver. It has a baggage compartment. Check with the RTD site about whether there are bike racks, I've put a boxed bike in the bus before, but not a non-boxed bike.

It's quite convenient - a fairly short walk from baggage claim, no reservations needed, runs every hour or so.

When do you fly in?

I'm on Warm Showers under the same name as here. I'm not nearly as crusty in person as I am on line

You were one of the names I PM'ed to the OP. The other was your nearby neighbors who held my bike soft case for me. You were a great host when I stayed there.
