Have You Met This Guy While Touring the US??

Hello,

3 of my friends and I were touring down the California coast last fall and we met an extremely fascinating character while riding. We bumped into him several days in a row and he said his name is Bit Taitai. He was riding a yellow department store mountain bike and had nothing but the clothes he had on and a 5 gallon bucket hanging from his handle bars. Each day we would see him and he was in front of us. We were baffled. We finally got a chance to talk to him for about 20 minutes on our 3rd or 4th day running into him. Since then we have talked about him often and some of his one liners are now parts of our daily language.

A couple weeks back, 3 out of the 4 of us that were touring last fall got together in Moab for some mountain biking. Our conversation turned to Bit many times over the course of the week. We wondered where he was, where he has been, where he was going, etc. We all figured that our questions would go on unanswered. Then, yesterday, a guy randomly commented on my friend's instagram picture of Bit and said "Wow, that's my cousin." We are all shocked because now we think we may have a chance to reconnect with Bit. His cousin said he has ridden to the east coast and is on his way back to Washington now. So, I am posting this to see if anyone else has had any interaction with him and where. I started a Facebook group called "Where's Bit Taitai?" If you have any stories or information, I would love to here them. Here is a picture. Thanks!

JP

Some hitchhiking hippies with home-made clothes and dogs with names like "Picket" and "Horses" managed to run into us in Belfast, NH, Bar Harbor, ME and Burlington, VT within 2 weeks of touring. By the third occasion, you'd have thought we were family. We drank together all night.

Point being, that "best route" you found on the map is someone else's dream route too. Running into people multiple times seems to happen on tours.
