Question regarding what bike to choose (Tricross or Crossrip)
 

Hi I'm a newbie regarding bikes and I would like to ask for help on what to choose from these two bikes.
The pricing here in my country is different, and I'm not sure what I should choose for my money since it's a bit expensive for me.

1) Specialized Tricross Sport disc ($1389.22)

now what bike among the two will be worth the money to spend for?

some additional info below.

-I used google to convert the currency.
-Bike will be use for short to middle distance touring and for commuting probably with gravels or unpaved roads.
-I live in Philippines's capital city where road are not as good as 1st world country's roads.
-I don't really like MTB.
-reason why I chose sport over elite or comp is because it gets more expensive.:twitchy:

Both are OK Specialized is based in California , Trek in Wisconsin

but both have the bikes built and shipped from Taiwan, Merida and Giant build them
and a bunch of other brands ..

Cross rip elite is a 50 34 crank the lower cost comp is a triple..

He's referring to the front chain rings. One is a "double" w/2 rings, the other is a "triple" w/3 rings. I gather the tourists like triples in order to find a comfortable gear combo.

double shifts between your 2 favorite ratios gets old soon enough..

triples have a smaller 3rd chainring* .. My touring rigs used a 50,40,24t

*doubles common now are limited by the bolt circle to 34t.

back when freewheels were 13t I built a 52-36 double .. or so.

If you're concerned about cost the Cross Rip Comp looks good enough and has the same frame as the elite.

It sure would be nice to ride one first but for nebulous reasons I prefer the Tri-Cross

I shopped these too though I couldn't find any local examples to test ride. The Crossrip is really long for its listed size (54 cm size has 56.9 cm top tube) and has a lot of top tube angle, and so it needs compact handlebars and a lot of seat post showing. Tricross range has been much slimmed down this year, there were a lot more models before including a steel version. It has the highest head tube of any drop bar bike I looked at, except maybe the Bianchi Volpe.
