I looked at your CGOAB site. It brings back very nice memories. I toured in Sri Lanka on my Bike Friday 6 or 7 years ago and I loved the country. Make sure you visit Sigiriya. I suspect you might be there now, as it's not too far from your last CGOAB entry.

The ride through Ella Gap and down to the south coast was great. It's a fantastic descent with magnificent scenery.

When I was in Nuwara Eliya, I hired a driver for 1/2 day to visit Horton Plains & Land's End. (it was very inexpensive) It's not really practical to reach by bicycle. It's best to get to the national park at dawn and the road is uphill and in terrible condition. Land's End was very impressive and there's a nice waterfall we hiked to. The hiking was easy.

I took advantage of the trains a couple of times. It was a good and safe way to get from Galle to Colombo to avoid the traffic along that part of the coast. Also, if other cyclists tell you that the road is still awful from Kandy toward Nuwara Eliya, you can take the train into the mountains. It's a very scenic ride through tea plantations on the very old train. It was fairly easy and extremely cheap to take a bike on the trains.

Enjoy the friendly people and fantastic food. I loved Sri Lanka.
