To all of you experienced tourers, I would like to ask if you can recommend a good book about touring. I'm not talking about travelogues (although those are usually pretty interesting, too) I'm looking for a good nuts and bolts book about what you need to have, know, be prepared for, etc when getting ready to begin touring. Like, how to outfit your bike, how to tune your bike, how to do repairs on the side of the road, how to train in the upcoming months, what equipment you'll need to have and bring, what to watch for, how to be prepared. Basically, I'm looking for the Boy Scout Handbook of bicycle touring. Can anybody recommend something?
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

I don't know about books, but Ken Kifer's site was a wealth of information for me. He pretty much covers everything I've ever had to know about this most excellent of lifestyles. Here's a link to the starter camping page, but there are detailed links about everything imaginable at the bottom of the page, from a cyclist who did it for 40 years until he was killed by a drunken loser last year.

A good book that covers many of the basics is The Essential Touring Cyclist by Richard Lovett (he also wrote a great cross country skiing book too). ISBN 0-07-136019-0.
I have a copy of this book that I've shared with numerous people over the years when they first got into touring. It occurs to me that I should really write a book review about it.
