Ways to set up butterfly bar?

I'm going to completely disassemble/reassemble my '89 Voyageur during a class at the end of the month.

Part of the refurb will include intalling an adjustable stem and butterfly bar to replace the old round-profile drop bars.

Seven speed shifters will remain on the downtube. Only thing on the bar will be brake levers and a mirror.

Besides wrapping the bar in tape, what other options do I have re: grips, gel sleeves etc?

Also can anyone recommend a bar mirror compatible with such as set-up?

Thanks,

Mike

A picture of How I set up my set http://www.cyclofiend.com/working/20...clark1008.html

Seven speed shifters will remain on the downtube.
you are obviously a lot more young and flexible than I ..
I prefer them up where my hands are, on the bars.. (its a grip shifter on that Bike)

so Thumb-shifters with the downtube levers on them , perhaps?

as to the mirror, it will occupy one of the places you may favor for your hands ,
how about your Helmet or eye-glasses frame instead?

Mirror on a Long stalk from near the center, will give you access to the bars for your hands,
but may Vibrate more than you wish..

There's a place in Minn that sells a Mountain Myrricle with clamp, which would work fine with those bars. Just pick a place to to mount it on the bars.

Okay,
Total hack job here but it worked.
Used old inner tube, window insullation, leather wrap and electrical tape.
The adjustable quil stem gets my hands right where I need them.
Attached the Mirycle mirror was a bit of a chanllange. I used a spare piece of tubing and hose clamped it to the butterfly bars, attached the quill style mirror fastener, then wrapped the whole thing. (broke the mirror in the process)
